International Festival/Study Abroad Fairs/International Picnic
International Festival: The Office for International Student Services arranges opportunities for students to showcase their countries and culture with the Las Cruces community through a spring International Festival. The festival is open to the public on Saturday. International students decorate booths to display information about their country. Some students sing, dance and play musical instruments. Others prepare food items for sharing with the audience of 500+ people who attend. On the Friday, school children visit the booths and students teach them games or engage in other activities related to their home country. Sometimes students are asked to talk about their country in local schools. Exchange students are encouraged to become involved with this and other activities sponsored by the Office of International Student Services.
Study Abroad Fair: Each semester the Office sponsors a study abroad fair to inform NMSU students about exchange opportunties. International students are encouraged to bring information about their schools. We can use catalogs, posters, post cards and other items that help students to understand the academic system and the community in which they would be studying. If you can't carry all this with you, ask your school to send this information to our Office.
Fair
International Picnic: Each Fall semester the Rotary Clubs of Las Cruces, in cooperation with the NMSU Rotaract Club, sponsor a welcome picnic for international students. The event allows incoming students to meet with community people, to be entertained by various groups such as Indian Dances and Mariachi, and to enjoy typical U.S. picnic food.
