Application Procedures for Exchange Students
ISEP:
Applicants for ISEP apply through their ISEP Coordinator. ISEP will make placement recommendations and forward the ISEP application to NMSU. Once confirmed by NMSU for placement, follow the official admission procedures described below to finalize admission to NMSU.
Non-ISEP:
Print and fill out the non-degree exchange application and have your international exchange coordinator send it with official transcripts and a letter that states you are the institution's nominee for the exchange. If English is not your native language, also submit an official TOEFL score. (If allowed by the exchange agreement to apply for degree status, fill out the International Admission Form instead of the non-degree exchange admission form.)
Official Admission Procedures:
Fill out the appropriate Non-degree Exchange Admission Form or International Admission Form (degree status), scan, and attach to an e-mail to the Study Aboad Advisor. (If you cannot scan, fax to 505-646-3482.) If not submitted previous to filling out the NMSU admission form, send all required supporting documents such as transcripts, TOEFL results, and verification of financial means.
Students are admitted as non-degree undergraduates in the College in which the majority of their courses will be taken. Students with no concentration of studies will be placed in the College of Arts and Sciences. To be admitted with graduate student status, international students must have completed an undergraduate degree that is recognized by the NMSU Graduate School.
Deadlines:
As a rule, applications for exchanges should be received by October 15 for Spring Semester (January) start, and by March 15 for Fall Semester (August) start. To apply after those dates, your international coordinator will have to contact the Director for permission to submit a late application. Mail applications to Office of Study Abroad, MSC 3567, Box 30001, Las Cruces, NM 88003. We need the original non-degree exchange application with your signature in order to admit you officially to the university and give you international exchange status.
Graduate students:
NMSU admits graduate students on exchange. Students wanting to enroll as graduate students must prove that they meet the graduate student admission requirements of NMSU. Graduate students will have to fill out the International Student Admission form if they are seeking degree status while on exchange (only ISEP or other exchanges are approved for degree status).
