Individual Travel Policy (See also Individual Travel Policy)
NMSU students who travel alone to complete requirements for a course, to conduct field research for a thesis or dissertation, to attend a conference with financial support from the university, to complete a coop assignment in another country, or for any other activity associated officially with NMSU, that student is required to follow NMSU study abroad policy governing:
• enrollment reports
• travel insurance, and
• study abroad orientation .
Individual travel is usually faculty led or supervised activities, whether for credit or not for credit.
  Enrollment reports
Student enrollment in individual travel is reported either by filling out the participant section of the NMSU Study Abroad Agreement-Resident Student Travel Programs or completing the NMSU Study Abroad Agreement-International Distance Education (if program is conducted as distance education, such as International student teaching).
  Travel insurance
Students are required to purchase one of the approved travel insurance policies sold by the Office of Study Abroad. The policy required depends upon the length of the program.
  Study Abroad Orientation
For most individual short-term trips, the faculty member responsible for the trip will provide the study abroad orientation (with support from the Office of Study Abroad if requested). For individual long-term trips (more than 2 weeks), students are required to complete one of the WebCT study abroad orientation courses orgnaized by the Office of Study Abroad. All students are strongly advised to review the safe travel advice and returned students' evaluations sections of the Study Abroad Web site, which provides lots of information about safe travel and cultural adjustment.
  Employee Policy
Employees leading or supervising student travel as part of a regular class (or other University sponsored international activity such as a professional conference) are required to inform the University that currently enrolled NMSU students will be studying abroad short term or long term by filling out the Notification Section of the NMSU Study Abroad Agreement–Resident Student Travel Programs form and making sure each students fills out and signs the participant section.
For distance education for graded credit options, the course instructor signs off on Section C-International Distance Education Course Approval of the NMSU Study Abroad Agreement–International Distance Education form.
