WÜRZBURG Web Link
The following information is provided as a guide. Applications to Würzburg are subject to review and approval by the Office of Study Abroad and an advertised program may be unavailable due to imbalances in the exchange or for other unforeseen circumstances. Program costs are subject to change.
Options
Business courses taught in English, while taking some German language classes. Other fields such as Engineering require students to have good German skills, but some courses are available in English. This is a tuition and room exchange, with students responsible for their meals. The academic calendar at Würzburg is based on a Winter and Summer Term (which we would call Fall and Spring). Fall (their Winter) runs from mid-September through late January, and Spring (their Summer) runs from early March through mid-July. NMSU students should plan on studying one academic year, or for Spring only. This exchange covers tuition and room costs at NMSU rates.
Chances of Placement Excellent.
Eligibility Minimum GPA of 3.0 with sophomore standing by time of exchange for undergraduates. German proficiency desirable, but not required for studying business.
Application Deadlines Fall deadline (mid-September) is April 15 and Spring (early March) deadline is October 15.
Paid to NMSU For 2008-2009: Application fee ($300), tuition per semester ($2,379), program fee per semester ($200), housing based on apartment options ($1,625), BETA insurance ($30).
Paid to Würzburg Cost of all program arrangements organized by Würzbirg. (Note: Students need to budget for train service from Frankfort to Würzburg, and from apartment to campus.)
Insurance
German Government Insurance required plus BETA. BETA Medical Evacuation Insurance also is required because German Student Health Insurance does not start upon departure from the U.S. and does not cover medical evacuation and medical costs incurred while traveling outside Germany.
Scholarships
Students should apply for local, federal and privale scholarships. The IFSA scholarship may be used for study on exchange at Würzburg. Students with Pell grants should apply for Gilman awards (up to $5,000) for study abroad. Contact DAAD for scholarships specifically for study in Germany.
Withdrawal Penalties
Students who have accepted the Würzburg placement then withdraw will be charged $200 by NMSU to recover its administrative expenses. Students who accept an academic year placement may have to pay the entire cost of the program if they withdraw early. Other Würzburg penalties for unrecoverable costs may apply for early withdrawal after accepting placement.
