The following information is provided as a guide. Applications to UFSJR are subject to review and approval by the Office of Study Abroad and an advertised program may be unavailable due to imbalances in the exchange or for other unforeseen circumstances. Program costs are subject to change.
Options
UFSJR offers Business Administration, Accounting, Biology, Economic Science, Physical Education, Electrical engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Hisotry, Humanities and Arts, Mathematics, Education, Psychology, and Chemistry. Students with Portuguese skills will be able to study during Fall and Spring.
Chances of Placement Excellent for students with strong Spanish reading skills or Portuguese skills.
Eligibility 3.0 GPA preferred for exchanges and strong Portuguese or Spanish language skills.
Application Deadlines Fall (Mid-July in Brazil) deadline is April 15 and Spring deadline is October 15.
Paid to NMSU
For 2008-2009: Application fee ($300), tuition per semester ($2,379), program fee per semester ($200), HTH insurance ($38 per month).
Paid to UFSJR
Cost of all program arrangements organized by UFSJR.
Insurance HTH required.
Scholarships
Students should apply for local, federal and privale scholarships. The IFSA scholarship may be used for study on exchange at UFSJR . Students with Pell grants should apply for Gilman awards (up to $5,000) for study abroad.
Withdrawal Penalties
Students who have accepted the UFSJR placement then withdraw will be charged $200 by NMSU to recover its administrative expenses. Students who accept an academic year placement may have to pay the entire cost of the program if they withdraw early. Other UFSJR penalties for unrecoverable costs may apply for early withdrawal after accepting placement.
