The following information is provided as a guide. Applications to U of Alberta are subject to review and approval by the Office of Study Abroad and an advertised program may be unavailable due to imbalances in the exchange or for other unforeseen circumstances. Program costs are subject to change.
Options
Students will find various programs in Agriculture & Forestry, Home Economics, Arts, Business, Education, Engineering, Native Studies, Physical Education and Recreation, the Sciences and more. UA will accept exchange students to all fields of study except for the following: · Criminology, · Medicine, and · Computer Engineering. The course BUS 201 is also not open to exchange students. UA has an English and a French campus in Edmonton. Special Summer International Studies and Spring Cortona, Italy program are available on a fee paying basis (scholarships available).
Chances of Placement
Excellent, but should apply early to guarantee housing.
Eligibility GPA of 2.75 with junior standing by time of exchange for undergraduates, and 3.0 for graduates. Advanced French language skills necesary for French campus.
Application Deadlines
Latest date by which application must be received by U Alberta: Fall (August) April 15 and Spring (January) April 15. NMSU's priority administrative deadline is May 1 for Fall and October 15 for Spring, after which late processing fees apply.
Paid to NMSU
For 2008-2009: Application fee ($300), tuition per semester ($2,379), program fee per semester ($200), BETA supplental insurance ($30).
Paid to UA Cost of all program arrangements organized by UA. UA requires the University of Alberta Health Insurance ($200) and the Universal Transit Pass ($75 discounted price) per semester.
Insurance
Canadian Overseas Student Health Insurance required as well as BETA since Canadian insurance does not start upon departure from the U.S. and does not cover medical evacuation.
Scholarships
Students should apply for local, federal and privale scholarships. The IFSA scholarship may be used for study on exchange at UA.
Withdrawal Penalties 
Students who have accepted the UA placement then withdraw will be charged $200 by NMSU to recover its administrative expenses. Students who accept an academic year placement may have to pay the entire cost of the program if they withdraw early. Other UA penalties for unrecoverable costs may apply for early withdrawal after accepting placement.
