The following information is provided as a guide. Applications to TEC are subject to review and approval by the Office of Study Abroad and an advertised program may be unavailable due to imbalances in the exchange or for other unforeseen circumstances. Program costs are subject to change.
Options
TEC specializes in Business, Engineering, Communications, and Hospitality and Tourism and can accommodate students in other fields of study. Students with Spanish proficiency can study in any field offered at TEC. TEC allows students to study Spanish at all levels while also taking courses in English, such as Mexican Culture and Doing Business in Mexico. NMSU students who have completed Spanish 112 may study Spanish at intermediate and advanced levels at TEC. TEC offers a 6-week course that begins early June and ends in late July. TEC’s Spanish Language program is also offered during Fall and Spring semesters and is recommended for students who want to study above the Spanish 305/325 level. Students may be housed in dormitories, with host families, or in apartments. Students may earn only 6 credits during the summer session at TEC.
Chances of Placement
Excellent for studying Spanish or for students in business and engineering who have strong Spanish skills.
Eligibility GPA of 2.75 with sophomore standing by time of exchange for undergraduates, and 3.0 for graduates.
Application Deadlines
Latest date by which application must be received by TEC: Fall (Early August) June 29 and Spring (January start) November 17. NMSU's priority administrative deadline is May 1 for Fall and October 15 for Spring, after which late processing fees apply.
Paid to NMSU
For 2008-2009: Application fee ($300), tuition per semester ($2,379), program fee per semester ($200), HTH insurance ($38 per month).
Insurance HTH required.
Paid to TEC Cost of all program arrangements organized by TEC.
Scholarships
Students should apply for local, federal and privale scholarships. The IFSA scholarship may be used for study on exchange at TEC. Students with Pell grants should apply for Gilman awards (up to $5,000) for study abroad.
Withdrawal Penalties
Students who have accepted the TEC placement then withdraw will be charged $200 by NMSU to recover its administrative expenses. Students who accept an academic year placement may have to pay the entire cost of the program if they withdraw early. Other TEC penalties for unrecoverable costs may apply for early withdrawal after accepting placement.
