The following information is provided as a guide. Applications to Australearn are subject to review and approval by the Office of Study Abroad and an advertised program may be unavailable due to imbalances in the exchange or for other unforeseen circumstances. Program costs are subject to change.
Options
AUSTRALEARN arranges semester, academic year, summer, internship, and special programs in Australia and New Zealand. These two countries follow the Southern Hemisphere Schedule, February-June (Spring), July-December (Fall).
Chances of Placement Excellent.
Eligibility
GPA of 2.5 or higher with 25-32 completed credits (each university sets its minimum requirements). Program is conducted in English.
Application Deadlines
Paid to NMSU $150 application processing fee, $200 administrative fee each semester, plus $30 for *BETA insurance.
Paid to Australearn All other program costs.
Special Costs
A student visa fee of about $300 is required by the Australian government. Students also have to pay for Australian and /or New Zealand government student insurance. Australearn can arrange group flights to Australia to save on flying there.
Insurance
*BETA Medical Evacuation Insurance required because Australian or New Zealand Overseas Student Health Insurance does not start upon departure from the U.S. and does not cover medical evacuation and medical costs incurred while traveling outside Australia or New Zealand.
Scholarships AUSTRALEARN offers scholarships based on need.
Withdrawal Penalties
Students who have applied to AUSTRALEARN and accepted their placement will be charged $100 by NMSU for early withdrawal. Students need to check with AUSTRALEARN about their withdrawal and refund policies.
