for undergraduate and graduate students
• Organize programs that (1) immerse students into the
academic environment of the host institution and the cultural environment of
the host country, (2) provide opportunities for second-language skill
development and practical internships, (3) keep costs affordable to attract
a diverse student population, and (4) maintain academic and administrative quality and
a safe learning environment
• Provide support services for inbound and outbound exchange students that
are consistent, efficient, and student friendly
|
| GOALS |
1.
Develop and manage a sufficiently broad
variety
of study abroad programs for credit
to meet the expressed academic needs
of colleges, departments, and students
2. Develop and implement academic and
administrative procedures for international
study that are efficient and supportive of students during program
application & enrollment
and after reentry, and that are implemented consistently campus-wide
by academic and non-academic support personnel
3. Provide sufficient institutional financial and personnel resources
to support the university’s current and future international
study programs and services at a level equal to peer institutions with
similar
breath of programs and students served.
4. Find additional sources of funding to (1) develop new international
study programs and service initiatives, (2) target the recruitment
of students under-represented in international study, and (3) provide
supplemental
scholarships to students with limited economic means
5. Provide incentives to involve faculty in leading or coordinating
international study programs and/or recruiting and advising prospective
students
6. Provide opportunities for students returning from study abroad to
serve as ambassadors for recruiting students, advising the office on
policy and procedural matters, contributing to the community, and advocating
for international education statewide
7. Increase enrollment of NMSU students in international study programs
at a level that is at least at the average enrollment level of NMSU’s
peer institution comparison group
8. Design research instruments for outcomes assessments of students
in terms of knowledge, skills and attitudes affected by study abroad |
