STUDY ABROAD PROGRAMS & EXCHANGE VISITOR SERVICES

ELIGIBILITY: Undergraduates may start to apply for admission to any transfer credit program during their second full-time semester at NMSU, but they will have to have completed that second semester before enrolling abroad. The required grade-point average is set by the host institution abroad. Generally exchanges and other university based programs abroad require a minimum grade-point cumulative average of 2.5 or higher. Programs other than exchanges and other university based programs only require the student to be in good standing academically (not on probation or suspension). Graduate students need to be in good standing and receive permission from their department and the Graduate School.

LANGUAGE OPTIONS:  Many programs are conducted exclusively in English in North America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Pacific, while some teach a second language while offering courses in content areas in English. Some programs will require students on exchange to have sufficient language skills to study courses in the language of the program. Students who want to learn a second language—Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Japanese, German, French, etc.—have many opportunities to study these language intensively for credit.
