INTERNSHIP & STUDENT TEACHING PROGRAMS
(See below STUDENT TEACHING (Belize, Mexico) • TEACHER INTERNSHIPS (Belize) • FCD INTERNSHIPS (Belize) • AGGIES GO GLOBAL (Worldwide) • CO-OP (Worldwide)

ELIGIBILITY:
NMSU departments organize internship programs for regular graded credit, distance education graded credit, or transfer credit. Students enroll at NMSU and then go abroad to complete the internship under faculty and in-country professional supervision. Students will be provided instructions by the internship supervisor for completing the requirements for all internships sponsored by NMSU. Some internships require submission of a proposal of internship goals and objectives and development of the program with an in-country provider. Student eligibility is determined by the student's advisors. Student teachers must be approved by the Department of Curriculum and Instruction.

APPLICATION DEADLINES
Applications or proposal should be submitted for Summer or Fall semester enrollment by January 31 (for priority consideration) or by March 15 for regular consideration; for Spring semester enrollment by August 31 (for priority consideration) or by October 1 for regular consideration. Some programs have special deadlines and applications will be considered at later dates to accommodate those programs.

PROGRAM COSTS:
Student teaching: Cost of full-time tuition, administrative fees and insurance paid to NMSU, living and travel expenses paid directly by students.
Other internships: Specially arranged internship cost will be based on a negotiated price for tuition, in-country supervision, and other coordination costs such as airport pick up. Students will payNMSU for health insurance for each month of enrollment, and to contractors for housing and meals. Students will pay out-of-pocket for a passport, visa fees (when required), immunizations (when required), travel to location of program (sometimes this is included in the payment to the host program), and incidental expenses.  The Office will help you budget for the program to which you decide to apply.

CURRENT INTERNSHIPS AND STUDENT TEACHING PROGRAMS SPONSORED BY NMSU:
STUDENT TEACHING: Placements are being considered regularly for elementary and secondary schools in Belize (in cooperation with either the University of Belize or Muffles College). Placements have also been made in Mexico and Costa Rica. Placement is determined by the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, and students are required to enroll in a 1 credit student teaching orientation course the semester prior to placement.
TEACHER INTERNSHIPS: Placements will be considered for the Belize Ministry of Education and Sports Internship and the U Belize ESL Internship. Consult with Dr. James O'Donnell, Department Head of Curriculum and Instruction, to enroll in a program.
FRIENDS FOR CONSERVATION DEVELOPMENT (FCD) INTERNSHIPS: FCD is an environmental and community development non-profit organization that has developed individual internships in Belize related to their areas of expertise. They work coopeatively with EcoEdventures, a Colorado corporation, to organize and implement support for these internships. Students propose what they want to do on an internship, with support from their faculty advisor, and FCD and EcoEdventures designs a program and sets a program fee to implement the program. Contact the Office of Study Abroad to propose an internship program.
AGGIES GO GLOBAL: Sponsored by the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences, AGG's Project Director works with students to develop challenging global experiences around the world. Individual programs have been arranged in Mexico, Belize, Kenya, Cambodia, and Europe. Contact the Director. Limited financial assistance may be available.

CO-OP: NMSU's Cooperative Education division will also work with students who want to arrange and receive approval for a paid international cooperative education placement. Contact Career Services.
