OUTBOUND ORIENTATION REQUIREMENTS

Exchanges, Affiliated Intensive Language, Affiliated University, Student Teaching or Internships, and Long-Term Travel Programs:
Students enrolling in programs in which they will receive transfer credit or graded credit via distance education are required to complete the on-line Blackboard orientation course titled Study Abroad Orientation. This has been designed to emphasize being exposed to country specific information about travel, health and safety, culture, finances, and more. Students who are required to enroll in the Blackboard Orientation Course will be enrolled by the Office using their MyNMSU login. The course is offered twice per year (October-November for Winter Break and Spring enrollment, March-April for Summer and Fall enrollment). Students required to enroll in this course will not be enrolled in the OISE or Distance Education courses used by study abroad to record students as out on study abroad in the NMSU Banner Student Data system.

Short-term Group & Individual Travel Programs:
Students enrolled in NMSU courses who are traveling abroad as part of their course for less than 10 days are not required to complete the Blackboard Orientation course. The employee organizing or supervising the short travel program takes ultimate responsibility for organizing travel orientation. But students are strongly advised to review the Student Advice, their country of travel Country Profile  and the Incident Reports sections of this web site. They also need to consult with their faculty leader about details of the trip. The employee organizing or supervising this travel activity may require students to attend supplemental orientation sessions.
