New Mexico State University

Mandatory Insurance Policy
Must NMSU students purchase insurance to travel abroad?
Yes. What students have to purchase depends on the type of program and the length of time outside the U.S. (International students going on exchange have to purchase the international student insurance provided by NMSU so they can maintain their student visa status.) Contact the Office of Study Abroad for assistance in obtaining this insurance.
Students traveling abroad for more than 15 days will be required to purchase the NMSU Study Abroad HealthSelect Overseas Plan, provided by HTH Worldwide Insurance Services, except when the program provider, such as ISEP, requires and provides insurance for travel abroad. Students who are required to purchase country provided mandatory insurance (such as Australia, Germany, New Zealand, Canada) are only required by NMSU to purchase the BETA plan to cover medical evacuation and repatriation.
Students traveling abroad for less than 15 days will be required to purchase the BETA accident policy or the HealthSelect Overseas Plan.
Those who are traveling in the border area of Mexico for 1 day may purchase the MEDEX Plus medical evacuation policy or the BETA plan.
Students whose sole purpose in traveling abroad is to attend a conference (and they are sponsored by NMSU to attend the conference) may purchase the MEDEX Plus plan or the BETA plan.
