NON-DEGREE LANGUAGE CREDIT BY DISTANCE EDUCATION (DEIL): INTENSIVE LANGUAGE INSTITUTE PROGRAMS: Any student in good standing academically* from any accredited U.S. institution may apply to be enrolledin non-degree status in the Intensive Language by Distance Education Program (List of Affiliated Language Institutes). This program facilitates entry into a supervised intensive language program for graded credit, with on-line support and in-country instruction. At the completion of the program, students would receive an official NMSU transcript to use to transfer credit to their home institution. Currently courses in Spanish, Portuguese, French, and Japanese are available.. *Not on suspension or probation. Graded credit (A-F, S/U) is issued by NMSU for beginning (100 level), intermediate (200-300 level) and some graduate level courses. NOTE: PORTUGUESE 113 is graded S/U only. Students will contract with the course instructor who does language skill evaluation to determine placement level. Then students accepted into the program (non-degree) travel to the cooperating institution abroad to pursue intensive instruction and integration in local culture. Course progress is monitored by e-mail correspondence, and at the end of the formal instruction the student returns to the Blackboard on-line course to take an exam and fill out a final evaluation. 60% of the student's grade is based on on-line work with the instructor. |
